Frederik X is now the king of Denmark
H.M. Queen Margrethe signed her abdication at the Council of State shortly after 2:00 PM, stepping down as the reigning monarch and handing over the throne to her son Crown Prince Frederik, who thus became King Frederik X.
Present at the Council of State were the queen, government ministers, the council secretary, as well as King Frederik and Crown Prince Christian.
After signing her abdication, the queen stood up and yielded her place at the head of the table to the new king, with the new Crown Prince Christian by his side. The queen then left the room with the words ‘God save the king.
