A majority of the members of the municipal council in Holbæk Municipality have decided to boycott goods and services from illegal Israeli settlements in Palestinian areas.

This was reported by Holbaekonline.dk.

The decision, which was made at the municipal council meeting last Wednesday, applies to the municipality’s procurement below the tender threshold and was adopted despite reservations from the municipal administration, which believed that it may contradict EU procurement rules that prohibit discrimination based on the origin of goods. Furthermore, the administration assessed that in practice, it is very difficult to document whether a product comes from an Israeli settlement.

The proposal was put forward by Enhedslisten, SF, and Radikale Venstre, and was adopted with 19 votes in favor and 9 against – one municipal council member abstained from voting.
