Four men have been arrested in Romania and charged with killing a 37-year-old Romanian man who was found dead in the Gudenå river in Denmark on 24 August.

The 37-year-old man, who was from Vrancea in Romania, was found near Svostrup around two and a half weeks ago. Central and West Jutland Police have since been investigating the case, leading to four arrests in Romania this week.

“It is the result of very good investigative work combined with some very useful information from the public that put us on the trail of the four men, whom we have now had arrested in cooperation with Romanian police,” said Detective Chief Inspector Theis Thylstrup, who is leading the investigation.

Suspects expected to be extradited to Denmark

On 4 September, Central and West Jutland Police obtained a court order remanding the four men in custody in absentia on charges of murder. Five days later, the suspects, aged 22, 25, 26 and 31, were arrested at different locations in Romania.

“Our investigation is continuing at full speed, but we believe we now have the four people responsible for the killing and that there are no additional accomplices at large,” Thylstrup said.

The four suspects had been staying in Denmark together with the victim. According to police, they were in the country for work.

The four men are expected to be extradited to Denmark, where they will appear before a judge at a preliminary court hearing.

Police continue to seek witnesses

Police are still asking potential witnesses to come forward, particularly people who were in or around Pramdragerparken in Fårvang between Thursday, 20 August and Monday, 24 August.

As part of the investigation, police have identified a holiday home in Pramdragerparken near Fårvang as the suspected crime scene.

“We have spoken to many people in the area, but we are still interested in hearing from anyone who was there and saw anything suspicious between Thursday, 20 August and Monday, 24 August, when the 37-year-old man was found dead,” Thylstrup said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Central and West Jutland Police on 114.

Police said they have no further information for the public at this time.
