35-Year-Old Acquitted of Murder – Convicted of Aggravated Assault

A 35-year-old man was acquitted of murder on Friday at the Court in Aarhus, but convicted of repeated aggravated assault in connection with a fatal stabbing in Jægergårdsgade in central Aarhus in August last year.

The man was sentenced to two years and six months in prison and accepted the verdict.

The case concerns an incident during the night of August 3, 2025, at approximately 3:25 AM near the Værestedet facility on Jægergårdsgade, where a 37-year-old man was stabbed several times. The 37-year-old was taken to hospital after receiving CPR at the scene but later died from his injuries.

On the same day, East Jutland Police arrested three men aged 31, 35 and 44 respectively. The charges against the 31-year-old and the 44-year-old were later dropped.

The trial against the 35-year-old began on May 1 and lasted five court days. He was charged with murder, but the court found it unproven that he had inflicted the fatal stab wounds.

However, the court found it proven that the 35-year-old had inflicted one stab wound to the victim’s abdominal area and therefore convicted him of repeated aggravated assault, as he had previously been convicted of violence-related offences.

“In this case, the court agreed with the prosecution that the convicted man had stabbed the victim with a knife. However, the court’s ruling was that it had only been proven that the defendant stabbed once, and therefore he was not guilty of the remaining stab wounds,” said special prosecutor Jesper Rubow from the Prosecution Service of East Jutland Police.

The 35-year-old was also convicted of violating the knife law, theft and computer fraud.

He remains in pre-trial detention while the prosecution considers whether to appeal the verdict.
