DMI Issues Severe Weather Warning for Heavy Rain

Read Time:49 Second

DMI has issued a category 1 ‘severe weather’ warning for heavy rain.

The warning applies to the southern half of Jutland as well as Funen, Zealand, and the islands – including the Copenhagen area.

The warning is valid from Monday at 8:00 PM to Tuesday at 8:00 PM. During this period, DMI expects heavy rain between 30 and 50 mm.

These are unusually large amounts of precipitation for the spring, and it is due to a low-pressure system over the English Channel, which is moving northward. On Monday afternoon and evening, it will send a associated front with rain and moist air up over Denmark from the south. The front is expected to stall over Denmark and will only slowly weaken towards Tuesday evening and Wednesday night. During Tuesday afternoon, the wind will shift to the north and northeast, and the temperature will drop to 2 to 6 degrees Celsius. In connection with this, precipitation may locally turn into sleet.
