Read Time:1 Minute, 3 Second

Six police officers were arrested in a coordinated operation on Tuesday.

The Independent Police Complaints Authority (Den Uafhængige Politiklagemyndighed), DUP, was responsible for the arrests, which took place at various addresses in Copenhagen and the surrounding areas. Simultaneously, searches were conducted at several locations and police stations, according to DUP.

The arrested police officers are between 26 and 34 years old, and they have been charged with theft of a particularly serious nature in connection with their duty, abuse of authority, and possession as well as the distribution of controlled substances.

All six arrested individuals are employed by the Copenhagen Police.

-“The arrests follow a thorough investigation, which has revealed indications that the arrested police officers have acted together in a closed group. This is a serious matter, and I am pleased that the coordinated operation has proceeded as planned,” said Niels Raasted, the head of the investigation at the Independent Police Complaints Authority.

The arrested individuals have subsequently been released.

The Independent Police Complaints Authority will now continue its investigation into the case, and once the work is completed, the case will be handed over to the State Prosecutor in Copenhagen, who will decide whether to bring charges in the case, according to the Independent Police Complaints Authority.
