The company Golden Foods ApS Denmark is recalling Karla Extra Long Grain Basmati Rice due to excessive levels of the pesticide chlorpyrifos found in the product.

This was announced by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.

The presence of high levels of chlorpyrifos pesticide indicates a potential health risk associated with consuming the basmati rice. It is important to note that the risk lies in prolonged exposure to the pesticide over time, rather than a single meal. Consumers are not expected to experience acute symptoms, according to the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.

The affected product is Karla Extra Long Grain Basmati Rice, 5kg, with Batch Number: 1139 and Best Before: October 2027.

The rice has been sold in specialty stores in the Copenhagen area.

Consumers are advised to discard the product or return it to the store where it was purchased.
