Young man convicted of rape

On Tuesday, a 23-year-old man was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison by the Court in Glostrup for raping a young woman in Vallensbæk.

The young man was accused of raping the young woman when she showed up at his residence in Vallensbæk on the night of July 25, 2021. When the woman arrived at the scene, she was beaten, subjected to other violence and subsequently forced sexual intercourse twice while subjecting the young woman to throat grabs and other suffocation.

The woman – like many other rape victims – went into shock and therefore did not report to the police until months later.

-“Abuse cases where a complaint is not made until long after the assault can be difficult to prove – but the result of the verdict shows that it was the right decision to bring the case,” says senior prosecutor Caroline Sophia Tarrow.

-“By appointment, the young woman showed up at the man’s residence in the middle of the night – but of course she didn’t show up to be subjected to violence and forced into sex, and that’s what’s happened here,” says Caroline Sophia Tarrow.

The 23-year-old man has chosen to appeal the verdict.
