36.000 turkeys to be destroyed
More than 36,000 turkeys are to be killed after finding the infectious bird flu H5N1 on a farm near Stokkemarke on Lolland.
The many turkeys will be gassed, according to the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, which expects the work to be completed by Friday.
The task of killing and driving the many thousands of turkeys for destruction started thursday evening and is carried out in collaboration between the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration and the Danish Emergency Management Agency.
When the task is completed, the entire property is cleaned and disinfected before it can be filled with turkeys again.
