Øresund Bridge road traffic to be suspended tonight for emergency drill

Read Time:1 Minute, 6 Second

The Øresund Link will be closed to motorway traffic in both directions tonight, Thursday 1 October, from 8pm to 11.15pm due to a full-scale emergency exercise.

Øresund trains will operate as normal.

Safety is a top priority on the Øresund Link, and the Øresund Bridge Consortium works continuously with authorities and train operators to develop and strengthen emergency preparedness. Every four years, a full-scale emergency exercise is held involving a number of organisations from both Sweden and Denmark.

Tonight’s exercise will be the seventh since the link opened in 2000 and is a central part of cross-border emergency preparedness on the fixed link.

The exercise is intended to test cooperation and coordination between the many organisations involved in handling a major incident on the Øresund Link. This includes cooperation at management level, organisation of emergency responses, alarm procedures and communication between Swedish and Danish systems.

Øresundsbron is urging motorists to plan their journeys in advance this evening.

Motorway traffic will be completely suspended between 8pm and 11.15pm. Traffic information is available at oresundsbron.com.

Train services will operate as normal and can be used while the motorway is closed.

The organisations participating in the exercise include Danish and Swedish police, emergency services, health authorities, railway authorities and operators, as well as the Øresund Bridge Consortium.
