The Foreign Minister refuses to recognize Palestine as an independent state
Norway, Spain, and Ireland recognized Palestine as an independent nation on Wednesday, but the Danish government refuses to do so.
Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen told DR:
“That decision is reserved for a situation where the state exists. To be a state, you need to have a territory you control and authorities that can control it. And that is not exactly the situation right now.”
Next week, the Folketing will consider a proposal to recognize Palestine from the Red-Green Alliance, the Social Liberal Party, the Alternative, and the Socialist People’s Party, SF. However, it does not appear to have the government’s support.
