Danish Meteorological Institute Issues Warning for Elevated Coastal Water Levels

Read Time:1 Minute, 41 Second

DMI has issued a category 2 warning – dangerous weather – regarding elevated water levels along the North Zealand coast, as well as Isefjord and Roskildefjord.

According to the warning, DMI expects water levels to range between 1.3 and 1.6 meters above normal sea level (DVR).

The warning is in effect from Thursday at 01:00 to Thursday at 21:00.

DMI has also issued a warning for the Øresund, where elevated water levels between 1.2 and 1.3 meters above normal sea level are expected. The warning is valid from Thursday at 01:00 to Thursday at 12:00.

There is also a category 1 warning – severe weather – regarding elevated water levels in the western part of Limfjorden, where the water level is expected to rise. In the Wadden Sea, water levels are expected to rise between 2.4 and 2.7 meters above normal sea level (DVR). Along the central West Coast, water levels are expected to rise between 1.8 and 2.0 meters above normal sea level (DVR) late Wednesday evening and into Thursday morning. Along the Kattegat coast from Skagen to Århus Bay, water levels are expected to rise between 1.2 and 1.4 meters above normal sea level (DVR) from early Thursday to Thursday afternoon. In northern Little Belt, as well as along the North and East Funen coasts, water levels are expected to rise between 1.2 and 1.6 meters above normal sea level (DVR) from early Thursday to Thursday afternoon.

Along the Jutlandic West Coast from the Danish-German border to Skagen, gale-force winds with storm-strength gusts are expected until late Wednesday evening.

This is due to strong winds caused by a powerful low-pressure system passing north of Denmark over the southern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula, pushing water from the North Sea towards the Danish coasts and into Danish waters, resulting in elevated water levels.
