Former Wagner-commander seeks asylum in Norway

A former commander of the notorious Russian mercenary group, the Wagner Group, has sought asylum in Norway.

This is according to the Norwegian media VG.no.

On Friday, Norwegian police announced that they had arrested a man in Pasvik who was suspected of having crossed the border from Russia to Norway illegally.

According to the police, the person must have crossed the border at Skrøytnes in Pasvikdalen.

– The man was apprehended by a border patrol from the Armed Forces and the police. The man has applied for asylum in Norway, says chief of staff in Finnmark Police District Tarjei Sirma-Tellefsen.

Since then, the police have worked to establish the man’s identity and questioned him.

VG.no reports, that the man is a former manager in the Wagner group named Andrej Medvedev. The man’s lawyer confirms the identity to VG.no and also confirms that he has sick asylum in Norway.
