Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo left the national team camp on Wednesday evening and flew home on his private jet – one day before Portugal’s Nations League match against Denmark.

Before Ronaldo’s sudden departure, Portugal coach Jorge Jesus had told a press conference at Parken that the 41-year-old would not be in the starting line-up against Denmark.

Ronaldo also did not play when Portugal faced Norway on Sunday.

Cristiano Ronaldo subsequently left the national team camp and had his private jet fly to Copenhagen to pick him up.

In a post on Instagram, Ronaldo wrote:

“When the time is right, I will tell all Portuguese people the truth about the reasons why I have left the national team, to which I have always been fully committed. Now is the time to wish Portugal and all my teammates, without exception, the best of luck.”
