Frederiksberg’s Three Local Bus Routes to Become Free of Charge

From Sunday, 28 June, it will be free to travel on Frederiksberg’s three local bus routes, 71, 72 and 74.

The initiative is part of a two-year pilot scheme approved by the Frederiksberg Municipal Council.

The aim is to encourage more people to use public transport by removing fares on the municipality’s local bus routes.

Mayor Michael Vindfeldt (Social Democrats) hopes the scheme will attract more passengers.

-“Frederiksberg is a city with excellent public transport, but we can see that capacity is not being utilized as much as we would like. That is why we are now making our own buses free of charge and will see how this affects passenger numbers. I am very much looking forward to following developments over the coming years and to taking a closer look at the results of the initiative in two years’ time when we evaluate the scheme,” he says.

The mayor also emphasizes that the scheme applies only to the three local Frederiksberg bus routes. Passengers must still pay a fare if they transfer to other bus routes, even if those routes operate within Frederiksberg.

Routes 71, 72 and 74 are owned by Frederiksberg Municipality and are fully financed by the municipality. They should therefore not be confused with the other bus routes serving the city.
