Shop Owners Convicted for Selling Counterfeit Apple Products

Two shop owners were convicted this week of selling counterfeit Apple products through their stores. The cases were investigated and prosecuted by the National Unit for Special Crime (NSK).

On Tuesday, a 32-year-old man was sentenced by the Court of Holstebro to 20 days of suspended imprisonment for trademark infringement. At the same time, his company, Refix ApS, was fined DKK 10,000. According to the judgment, the store sold 409 counterfeit Apple products, including cables, chargers, and headphones, during the period from September 2022 to November 2024. However, the court acquitted him of charges relating to a further 536 products.

On Thursday, the Court of Hillerød delivered its judgment against a 35-year-old man who previously owned three stores in the Topfone ApS chain, which has since gone bankrupt. He was sentenced to 30 days of suspended imprisonment for trademark and design infringement following the sale of 754 counterfeit Apple products, including adapters, headphones, and cables, between October 2023 and April 2024. In addition, he must pay approximately DKK 28,000 in compensation to Apple Inc.

Special Prosecutor Jan Østergaard from the National Unit for Special Crime stated that the judgments demonstrate that the sale of counterfeit goods is a serious offence that affects both consumers and the owners of the original trademarks.
