Stole Running Shoes – But Was Caught After Chase Through Aarhus

East Jutland Police received a report on Sunday morning at 7:03 AM about a burglary at a sports shop in central Aarhus.

Operators at the police control centre quickly spotted a suspected offender through the city’s surveillance cameras. They were able to follow the man as he cycled along Åboulevarden towards Europaplads.

A dispatcher from the control centre then left his post and headed on foot towards Europaplads, where he encountered the man on the bicycle. During the pursuit, the man threw away a large cardboard box containing around 15 pairs of running shoes before continuing towards the police headquarters.

Shortly afterwards, another dispatcher joined the chase, which continued along Spanien towards Jægergårdsgade and the harbour area. There, the man attempted to hide on a construction site.

With assistance from a citizen, police managed to locate the man, who was arrested shortly afterwards. The arrested individual is a 48-year-old man from western Aarhus.

He has now been charged with violating the Danish Penal Code and will later appear before the Court in Aarhus, where a judge will decide on the case.

The sports shop later received all the stolen goods back the same morning.
