Brøndby IF Dismisses Steve Cooper
Brøndby IF announced on Friday evening that it has decided to terminate its cooperation with head coach Steve Cooper with immediate effect, the day after the season’s final match. At the same time, Julius Ohnesorge takes over as the club’s new football director.
Steve Cooper is leaving the club with immediate effect, and assistant coach Alan Tate is also departing. Cooper was appointed head coach in September last year.
According to Brøndby vice-chairman Scott McLachlan, the decision was made after a period of inconsistent results and performances.
“With the appointment of Steve, we made a decision that we both believed and hoped could take the club to a new level. In several respects, it has done so, but neither the results nor the performances on the pitch have followed. Therefore, today we have chosen to say goodbye to both Steve and Alan,” says Scott McLachlan.
Brøndby IF also announced that Julius Ohnesorge assumes the role of football director with immediate effect. He joined the club as technical director in the summer of 2025 and succeeds Benjamin Schmedes, who continues as sporting director in the German league organisation DFL.
Julius Ohnesorge says the club must now return to its core values and strengthen its identity.
“Brøndby IF must stand for something clear. A team, a culture and a direction that every fan can identify with and be proud of. We have not been consistent enough in demonstrating that recently,” he says.
Brøndby IF states that the process of finding a new head coach is now underway.
