Man remanded in custody in case involving sexual abuse of children

A man in his 50s from Frederikshavn has been remanded in custody for four weeks in a case involving sexual abuse of children.

Early Wednesday morning on 20 May, North Jutland Police carried out an arrest and search operation targeting the man. According to police, he is suspected of, on several occasions between 2018 and 2022, transferring money to a woman from the Philippines in exchange for her subjecting her children to sexual abuse while the man was in video contact with her.

“Due to the nature of the case, we regard the abuse as rape,” said Mikkel Lousdal, Deputy Chief Superintendent at North Jutland Police and head of the investigation.

The arrested man appeared in a preliminary hearing at the Court in Hjørring at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The prosecution requested closed doors during the hearing, meaning that only the charges were read out in the public part of the proceedings. North Jutland Police therefore stated that they are currently unable to provide further details about the investigation.

“The entire case complex is still being investigated by the police, so at present we cannot comment further. We need to protect an ongoing investigation,” Mikkel Lousdal said.
