Earthquake shakes Zealand

An earthquake struck Wednesday afternoon with its epicentre in Køge Bay off Køge.
This has been confirmed by GEUS.
The earthquake measured 3.9 and is, according to GEUS, among the strongest ever recorded in Denmark.
“It does not surprise us that an earthquake has occurred in Denmark. It is entirely expected that this can happen. What is unusual about this earthquake is that it is larger than the earthquakes we most often see, and that people have been able to feel it,” says Tine Larsen, seismologist at GEUS.
She explains that the tremors from the earthquake were likely felt more strongly if people were on a higher floor, compared with, for example, being on the ground floor of a building.
GEUS is responsible for monitoring and recording earthquakes and other seismic activity in Denmark and Greenland.
