East Jutland Police have charged three people following racist remarks made during a Danish Superliga match between AGF and FC Midtjylland.

The match was played on Sunday, 26 April at 20:00 at the temporary stadium in Vejlby in northern Aarhus. After the match, police were informed through statements from AGF and FC Midtjylland that several players had been subjected to racist remarks from the stands.

As a result, East Jutland Police launched an investigation on suspicion of violating Section 266 b of the Danish Criminal Code. According to police, both clubs contributed to identifying the suspected offenders.

On Thursday evening, a 74-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, both associated with the home team, were charged with each having made racist remarks directed at selected FC Midtjylland players.

In addition, a 35-year-old man associated with the away team was charged with making racist remarks directed at a group of fans associated with the home team.

-“We strongly condemn these incidents, and we take racism cases very seriously. A Superliga match is not a free space for committing crimes and subjecting other people and players to racist remarks. When attending a football match, people should be able to have fun in a safe and festive environment – and therefore we are also pleased that three people have now been charged,” said Police Inspector Brian Voss Olsen of East Jutland Police.

He added:

-“We would also like to thank the many people who know how to attend football matches and behave properly – and the clubs, which deserve praise for acting quickly, decisively and cooperatively with the police in these cases,” said Police Inspector Brian Voss Olsen.
