Strong support for nationwide cancer fundraising campaign
Around 15,000 volunteers took part on Sunday in the Danish Cancer Society’s (Kræftens Bekæmpelse) annual nationwide fundraising campaign, raising funds for research, prevention, and support for patients and their relatives. This is according to a preliminary estimate from the organization.
Volunteers of all ages took to the streets across the country, going door to door with collection boxes and wearing red capes to gather donations.
According to Chair Helen Bernt Andersen, the day is an expression of community:
“-The nationwide collection day is when the community knocks on the door to ensure that no one faces cancer alone. I am both proud and moved by the many volunteers who spend their time making a difference for people affected by cancer.”
She also highlights the efforts of the local fundraising coordinators in planning activities.
CEO Jesper Fisker likewise points to the strong public support as crucial:
“-I am deeply grateful for the strong support from the public. Broad public backing is essential for the Danish Cancer Society to carry out much of the work we do.”
Only three percent of the organization’s income comes from public funds, making it dependent on donations and volunteer engagement.
Although the physical collection ended on Sunday, it is still possible to contribute digitally in the coming days. The final result of the campaign is expected to be announced next week.
