Dropped cargo creates dangerous situations on the roads every day

Read Time:59 Second

Dropped cargo ends up on state roads an average of 11 times daily, according to new figures from the Danish Road Directorate. In total, authorities responded 4,031 times last year to remove objects from the roads.

According to the insurance company Gjensidige, dropped cargo can create dangerous situations for both road users and road workers.

“It can create extremely dangerous situations in traffic when cargo falls off into the middle of the road, because road users, who are often traveling at high speed, may be forced to swerve or brake. Therefore, take the extra time to secure your load properly – it is a simple way to take responsibility for everyone’s safety,” says claims director Lene Rasmussen.

The cases range from building materials to bicycles and garden waste, and both businesses and private individuals are involved.

“Many forget to distribute the load correctly. The most dangerous are gravel or heavy materials that end up piled in the middle of the load. This creates imbalance, and the vehicle risks starting to sway,” says Lene Rasmussen.

According to the National Police, dropped cargo can result in fines and, in serious cases, a conditional disqualification from driving.
