Most motorcycle accidents occur in spring and summer months
When the motorcycle season starts in spring, the risk of accidents increases significantly. According to figures from Alm. Brand, 72 percent of all motorcycle accidents occur during the spring and summer months.
Excessive speed is a recurring factor in particular, and many accidents are single-vehicle or collision incidents where speed is not adapted to the conditions. The transition from a winter break requires readjustment, which can affect both reaction time and situational awareness.
“For many, spring means the first rides on a motorcycle after a long break. It requires both caution and readjustment to get started safely,” says Christian Johansen, Director of Motor at Alm. Brand.
At the same time, Alm. Brand points out that both proper safety equipment and a check of the motorcycle are important for road safety.
“It is important to give the motorcycle a thorough check after the winter. Check tyre pressure, brakes, oil and lights to ensure it is in optimal condition,” says Christian Johansen.
A study from the Danish Road Safety Council and Insurance & Pension also shows that not all motorcyclists use full safety equipment. At the same time, the risk of accidents per kilometre driven is nearly 90 times higher for motorcyclists than for car drivers.
