21-year-old sentenced to psychiatric detention for murder

A 21-year-old man has been sentenced by the District Court in Glostrup to indefinite placement in a secure psychiatric facility for the murder of a man of the same age in Hvidovre.

The killing took place in an apartment around midnight between 2 and 3 January 2025, where the victim was killed by a large number of stab wounds and blows with a machete. Neighbours alerted the police due to noise from the apartment.

When the police arrived, they found the now-convicted man seriously injured in front of the building after a fall from the third floor. Inside the apartment, officers found the murder victim.

The court rejected the 21-year-old’s claim of self-defence and followed the prosecution’s assessment that it was a case of intentional homicide. The convicted man has appealed the verdict to the High Court.
