A 29-year-old man has been convicted in court of a knife attack in an apartment on Gl. Vardevej in Esbjerg on 9 October last year.

At the time, South Jutland Police received a report of a stabbing in the apartment, where a 51-year-old man and a now 38-year-old woman were stabbed. The 51-year-old man was seriously injured and was in a life-threatening condition.

The 29-year-old was arrested shortly after the incident and brought before a preliminary hearing. He has been held in custody since then.

During the trial, which lasted two days, the man was found guilty of stabbing the 51-year-old several times with a knife. According to the court, the man was stabbed in the back of the head, in the face, four times in the neck, and several times in other parts of the body.

The defendant had been charged under section 245(1) of the Danish Criminal Code concerning assault of a particularly brutal, violent or dangerous nature.

-“Today the court has found the defendant guilty of stabbing a man several times with a knife. The stabbings include the head and neck, which are always associated with great seriousness and danger, and therefore I am also very satisfied that this is reflected in the sentence imposed,” says prosecutor Katrine Tranekjer.

The prosecution had also brought charges for stabbing the woman, but the 29-year-old was acquitted on that part of the case.

The man has been sentenced to 1 year and 9 months in prison and remains in custody after the verdict. He has appealed the judgment.
