The war in the Middle East may delay postal votes for the elections in Denmark and the Faroe Islands
The situation in the Middle East is currently affecting the delivery of postal votes for both the Danish parliamentary election on March 24 and the Faroese parliamentary election on March 26.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the delivery of mail from and via the Middle East has been hit by major delays, and in some places postal delivery has been suspended as a result of the situation in the region.
The ministry therefore cannot guarantee that postal votes cast in countries affected by the situation will arrive in time for the elections. This applies both to votes cast in countries in the Middle East and in some cases also in countries in Asia where mail delivery passes through the Middle East.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Danish representations in the region are working on several alternative solutions to ensure that as many postal votes as possible arrive before the elections.
Eligible voters who are in affected countries are encouraged to cast their postal vote as early as possible. Citizens residing abroad with questions about postal voting are also encouraged to contact the relevant Danish embassy in the country where they are staying.
