After unrest in the Middle East affected air traffic, Spies is now deploying a charter aircraft from Sunclass Airlines to bring more than 300 stranded Nordic guests home from the Maldives and Thailand.

In recent days, Spies has been working to get guests home from a number of destinations after unrest in the Middle East affected air traffic in the region and closed several airspaces.

While guests are being brought home from places including Dubai and Doha via external airlines, Spies is now deploying a special repatriation flight from the company’s own airline, Sunclass Airlines.

The aircraft will pick up guests stranded at several destinations in the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia. With the flight, Spies expects to be able to bring more than 300 stranded Nordic travellers home.

“This is a solution we have been working on for several days, and which now appears to be falling into place. Being able to deploy an aircraft from our own airline allows us to help many of our guests get home directly during a period when it is incredibly difficult to find airline tickets,” says Sofie Folden Lund, Head of Communications and Press at Spies and Sunclass Airlines.

“We are currently informing the guests, and many are naturally very relieved and happy at the prospect of returning home.”

The repatriation will be carried out using Sunclass Airlines’ largest aircraft, an Airbus A330neo. The aircraft is scheduled to fly to the Maldives on Sunday, March 8, and then continue to Phuket in Thailand. From there the aircraft will continue to Copenhagen during the night of March 9.

To collect the guests, stranded travellers will also be flown to the Maldives and Thailand from locations including Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Bali.

Affected guests will be contacted directly by Spies during the day with further information about their journey home.
