Three men aged 19, 21 and 22 were today, Friday 20 February 2026, sentenced by the Court in Odense for attempted bombing at a residential property in Odense as well as a number of other serious offences.

The case concerns an attempt to detonate a bomb containing more than four kilos of dynamite in a stairwell on Nyborgvej in Odense in December 2023. At the time, between 19 and 25 people were present in the building.

The attempt failed, among other reasons because the perpetrators were unable to gain access to the stairwell and because they were discovered and interrupted by police, who arrived at the scene.

The three men were also convicted of importing, transporting and possessing explosives under particularly aggravating circumstances, as well as weapons offences in connection with the case.

In the same case, four other individuals have previously been sentenced to long prison terms for their roles in the planning and handling of the explosives.

In addition to the explosives case, the three men were convicted of having planned and arranged gunfire directed at a residential property in Seden in Odense in March 2023, where a family with two children was present in the home. The gunshots created an imminent danger to the lives and physical safety of the residents.

One of the three men was furthermore convicted of having subjected a man to aggravated and prolonged deprivation of liberty and abuse in February 2023. Over a period of at least two weeks, the victim was held under severely unhygienic conditions and subjected to repeated assaults, including blows, kicks and burns to the face.

The victim was also subjected to rape under particularly aggravating circumstances, during which a video of the assault was recorded and shared via social media.

The 20-year-old man from Odense Municipality was sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment.

“The court has today sent a clear signal that this form of extreme and organised crime will be punished severely. These are very serious offences in which both specific victims and completely random citizens have been in danger of losing their lives,” said Special Prosecutor Daniel Dokkedahl of the Funen Police.

A decision has been made to confiscate explosives, weapons and a mobile phone, as well as to order the deletion of the video.

The three men have been remanded in custody following the judgment.

The 22-year-old requested time to consider whether to appeal. The two others appealed the judgment on the spot.
