Record year for traffic across the Øresund Bridge
In 2025, the Øresund Bridge (Øresundbron) set several traffic records, with both truck traffic and leisure travel reaching new highs. With a total of 8,003,000 crossings, a new annual record was also set for the number of crossings over the bridge.
The Øresund Bridge Consortium’s result before value adjustment amounted to DKK 1,736 million, an increase of DKK 100 million compared with 2024. Road traffic across the Øresund connection rose by 5.5 per cent compared with the previous year, with an average of 21,925 crossings per day. Adjusted for the leap year 2024, this corresponds to an increase of 6 per cent in average daily traffic.
“Never before has bridge traffic been as strong as in 2025. We set a record for the number of crossings for the second year in a row. All traffic segments have increased compared with last year, and records have been set for both trucks and leisure travel,” says Linus Eriksson, CEO of the Øresund Bridge.
Car commuting across the bridge saw the largest increase in 2025, rising by 9.1 per cent compared with the previous year. At the end of December, there were around 6 per cent more commuter agreements than at the same time in 2024.
“Commuting is one of the strongest drivers behind greater integration in the region, because people live on one side of the bridge and work on the other. In 2025, we recorded a record number of commuter trips, but there were also significantly more commuters,” says Linus Eriksson.
Leisure traffic also set new records in 2025. Both Danish and Swedish leisure traffic using the ØresundGO discount agreement increased during the year. Leisure travel by Swedish customers grew by 5 per cent, while Danish leisure traffic rose by 7 per cent. Cash traffic increased overall by 3 per cent, primarily driven by more German leisure customers, with traffic rising by 6 per cent compared with 2024.
Truck traffic across the Øresund Bridge likewise reached a record level. In total, 605,900 crossings by trucks over nine metres were registered, exceeding the previous record from 2022 of 597,559 crossings.
“Truck traffic continues to grow, and the market share is increasing. Regional traffic between Denmark and Sweden is rising, while transit traffic to and from Northern Europe declined slightly in 2025,” says Linus Eriksson.
In addition, the number of electric vehicles increased significantly in 2025. During the year, approximately 1,440,000 electric vehicle crossings were registered over the Øresund Bridge, compared with 990,000 in 2024, corresponding to an increase of 45 per cent. Electric vehicles thus accounted for around 18 per cent of total road traffic in the period from January to December 2025.
Road traffic revenues increased by DKK 94 million to DKK 1,861 million compared with 2024. Railway revenues amounted to DKK 598 million and are indexed, meaning they are not affected by traffic volumes. Operating costs rose by DKK 33 million to DKK 310 million, which according to the Øresund Bridge Consortium is in line with expectations and is due to increased activity, price increases and exchange rate effects on costs in Swedish kronor. At the same time, interest expenses fell from DKK 151 million to DKK 125 million as a result of lower debt.
