The South Jutland Police have found personal belongings near the location on Rømø where human bones were discovered on Saturday.

The items are believed to belong to a missing German national, and based on the preliminary investigations, the police assume that the remains are those of the missing person. The next of kin have been notified.

The bones were discovered on Saturday at 11:58 a.m. at Nørre Frankel, north of Havneby. Police cordoned off the area and launched an extensive operation involving, among others, the National Forensic Centre, the Department of Forensic Medicine and dog patrols. The on-site investigations were concluded and the cordon lifted at 10:40 p.m. the same evening.

The investigation is now continuing with a focus on determining the cause of death and clarifying the circumstances surrounding the death. There is nothing in the initial investigation to indicate that a criminal offence has taken place. Final identification of the deceased is pending forensic examinations, and the police are not yet able to state when these will be completed.

The South Jutland Police have no further comments at this time.
