A snowstorm is on its way to parts of the country, prompting the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) to issue a category 2 warning – dangerous weather.

According to DMI, a low-pressure system with an associated front will approach during the night into Monday and will spread across the entire southern part of the country during the day. In connection with the front, significant snowfall is expected, accompanied by strengthening winds from the northeast.

DMI’s warning states that winds of 10–15 m/s from the northeast are expected, along with snowfall – in periods between 10 and 15 cm of snow within six hours, and a total of 10–20 cm during the warning period.

According to DMI, the heaviest snowfall is expected in a belt stretching from Als across southern Funen, Lolland, Falster, southern Zealand and Møn to Bornholm.
