Minister of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs Morten Bødskov has travelled to China this week together with a large delegation of Danish companies to strengthen cooperation and address both opportunities and challenges for Danish businesses in the Chinese market.

The visit includes meetings in Beijing and Shanghai and is taking place in close cooperation with companies from the shipping and maritime industries as well as the life science sector. The delegation includes representatives from Maersk, Everllence, Ambu and Leo Pharma, among others.

-“The world has changed. That is why we must defend and strengthen Denmark’s positions of strength. Within green shipping and life science, we can match China’s ambitions for growth and sustainability. However, the relationship with China does not come without challenges. We therefore need to see whether we can find a path towards creating shared results. That is why I am now travelling to China together with several leading Danish companies. We need to gain a better understanding of both obstacles and opportunities. Through honest and constructive dialogue, we can maintain a strong partnership that will create growth and jobs in both countries,” says Morten Bødskov.

During the visit, the minister will meet with the Chinese Vice Minister of Transport responsible for maritime affairs, as well as the Minister of Industry and Information Technology. Key topics on the agenda include market access, fair competition and stable framework conditions, which are central to the operating environment for Danish businesses in China.

The life science sector accounts for the largest share of Danish exports to China, and in the first 11 months of 2025 alone, total goods exports reached DKK 49 billion. With China’s increasing focus on sustainability and innovation, Denmark sees potential in contributing to this development – not least within green shipping, where Danish players hold a global position.

During the visit, attention will also be given to support for global rules for the green transition of shipping, which holds significant export opportunities for Denmark’s maritime sector.
