The President of the European Council, António Costa, is convening an extraordinary meeting of the European Council as a result of the situation surrounding Greenland.

On the social media platform X, António Costa writes that through his consultations with the member states he has confirmed, among other things, that there is agreement on the principles of international law, agreement on support for and solidarity with Denmark and Greenland, and a shared assessment that customs tariffs would undermine transatlantic relations and are incompatible with the trade agreement between the EU and the United States.

The members of the European Council are the heads of state and government of the 27 EU member states, the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission.
