Still Demands Greenland: Trump Imposes Tariffs on Eight European Countries

The United States will impose a tariff of 10 percent on goods from eight European countries starting on February 1.

This is written by U.S. President Donald Trump on his social media platform Truth Social.

Here, among other things, he writes:

“For many years we have subsidized Denmark and all the countries of the European Union, as well as others, by not imposing tariffs or other forms of payment on them. Now the time has come, after centuries, for Denmark to give something back – world peace is at stake! China and Russia want Greenland, and there is nothing Denmark can do about it.”

He repeats his own narrative that Denmark has only two dog sleds to protect Greenland and that “Only the United States of America, under PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP (his own emphasis – ed.), can play in this game – and even very successfully. No one will touch this holy piece of land, especially because U.S. national security and world security in general are at stake.”

About the exercise that Denmark and a number of NATO countries are conducting in Greenland these days, Trump writes:

“On top of all this, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland have traveled to Greenland with purposes that are unknown. This is a very dangerous situation for the security, safety, and survival of our planet. These countries, which are playing this very dangerous game, have introduced a level of risk that is not viable or sustainable. Therefore, in order to protect global peace and security, it is imperative that strong measures be taken so that this potentially dangerous situation is quickly and unquestionably brought to an end.”

Therefore, Trump is imposing a 10% tariff on goods from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland.

The tariff will increase to 25% on June 1, and “This tariff must be paid and will remain in effect until an agreement is reached on the complete and total purchase of Greenland. The United States has attempted to carry out this deal for over 150 years,” writes the American president.
