Løkke Surprised by Trump’s Latest Statement
Denmark’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, is surprised by U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest statement on tariffs against Denmark and seven other countries.
On his Facebook profile, Lars Løkke Rasmussen writes:
“President Trump’s statement comes as a surprise. The purpose of the increased military presence in Greenland, to which the president refers, is precisely to enhance security in the Arctic,” Lars Løkke Rasmussen writes on his Facebook page, adding:
“We are in close contact with the European Commission and our other partners regarding the matter.”
In an official statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following Trump’s tariff announcement, Lars Løkke Rasmussen states:
“Earlier this week, we had a constructive meeting with Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Rubio. The purpose of the increased military presence in Greenland, to which the president refers, is to strengthen security in the Arctic.”
As well as:
“We agree with the United States that there is a need to do more, as the Arctic is no longer a low-tension area. That is precisely why we are intensifying our efforts together with our NATO partners, in full transparency toward our American allies.”
