On Wednesday evening, East Jutland Police carried out a traffic control operation in western Aarhus, during which 18 charges were brought against 16 individuals.

One of the more eye-catching incidents occurred when a traffic officer observed a male motorist playing the mobile game Candy Crush while driving. The driver was charged and received a penalty point on his driving licence. At the same time, he was encouraged to keep his focus on the traffic rather than on games – no matter how exciting the next level might be.

A further three motorists were also charged with using a handheld mobile phone while driving and each received a penalty point on their driving licence.

In addition to mobile phone use, the control also included a case of drink-driving and two instances in which riders of electric scooters were not wearing helmets. Two motorists were stopped for not carrying their driving licences, and three were driving with defective lighting. One cyclist was caught without lights during the mandatory lighting period, while two motorists were measured as driving too fast in an urban area. In addition, one person was charged with lack of due care, another with violating a turning prohibition, and one for failing to give the correct signal or indication in traffic.

The police emphasise the message: Drive your car when you are driving your car!
