Landlord convicted of aiding and abetting pimping

A 70-year-old man has been sentenced to three months of unconditional imprisonment for aiding and abetting pimping.

The verdict was handed down on Tuesday by the District Court in Viborg.

The man, who is from the northern part of Viborg Municipality, sublet five properties to some unknown persons and arranged video surveillance at the addresses, even though he knew that they were operating a brothel through several women at the properties. The properties are located in the Karup, Tjele, Sunds, Skive and Aalestrup areas.

The rentals took place during various periods from 1 April 2017 until 15 May 2024, and the 70-year-old man is assessed to have earned an income from the rentals of one million kroner or more.

“When you rent to ringleaders, as has happened here, you enable money to be made from other people’s prostitution. With today’s prison sentence, the court clearly signals that you cannot simply rent out your property, turn a blind eye and go unpunished. It is aiding and abetting pimping, and it is punished severely,” says deputy public prosecutor Simon Fransgaard, who prosecuted the case on behalf of the prosecution service at Mid- and West Jutland Police.

The 70-year-old man requested time to consider whether he wishes to appeal the verdict.
