The governing coalition in Greenland will not accept an American takeover of Greenland.

This is stated in a press release from Naalakkersuisut – the Government of Greenland.

The press release states: “The United States has once again reiterated its wish to take over Greenland. This is something the governing coalition in Greenland cannot accept in any way.

Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. As part of the Realm Community, Greenland is a member of NATO, and the defence of Greenland must therefore take place through NATO.

On the basis of the very positive statement for Greenland from the six NATO member states, Naalakkersuisut will intensify its efforts to ensure that the defence of Greenland takes place within the framework of NATO. All NATO member states, including the United States, share a common interest in the defence of Greenland, and the governing coalition in Greenland will therefore, together with Denmark, work to ensure that dialogue on and the development of the defence of Greenland take place within NATO cooperation.

The governing coalition in Greenland believes that Greenland will, for all time, be part of the Western defence alliance.

The United States has once again reiterated its wish to take over Greenland. This is something the governing coalition in Greenland cannot accept in any way.”
