The Greenlandic and Danish governments have contacted the U.S. Department of State with a request for an early ministerial meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Greenland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Research Vivian Motzfeldt, and Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.

This was written by Greenland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Research, Vivian Motzfeldt, in a post on her Facebook profile. According to the post, the purpose of the meeting is “a discussion of the United States’ notable statements regarding Greenland.”

It has not previously been possible for U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to meet with the Government of Greenland. This is despite the fact that the Government of Greenland and the Danish government repeatedly requested a meeting at foreign minister level throughout 2025, Vivian Motzfeldt writes.
