On Tuesday, a 53-year-old man from Vejle was sentenced by the District Court in Kolding to preventive detention for, among other offences, rape, attempted rape, and a number of other criminal acts.

The man was found guilty of a total of eight counts, including rape, rape involving sexual acts other than intercourse, several attempted rapes, unlawful coercion, repeated acts of violence, and indecent assault.

One of the counts concerned a rape committed on 28 January 2025 at an address in Vejle, where the victim – a woman – was threatened with a knife. The following day, the man was convicted of attempting to rape another woman, who managed to resist and escape from the scene.

He was also convicted of attempted rape of a further five women, whom he touched under threats of violence and attempted to rape. These offences took place in the period from 4 January to 29 January 2025 in Vejle.

The man pleaded guilty to all charges during the trial.

“These are very serious crimes committed over a short period of time, and I am therefore satisfied that the man has today been sentenced to preventive detention,” said Special Prosecutor Søs Bløcher of the prosecution service at South East Jutland Police.

She added:

“This is an atypical case because several of the offences for which the man has now been convicted were clarified on the basis of the convicted person’s own statements. These statements were subsequently corroborated by the police investigation. It has also been atypical that both the prosecution and the defence counsel requested a sentence of preventive detention.”

The 53-year-old man accepted the verdict and was taken into custody following the sentencing.
