42-year-old sentenced to psychiatric placement for the killing of a Flextrafik driver
On Tuesday, the District Court in Roskilde sentenced a 42-year-old man to placement in a psychiatric hospital without a fixed maximum term for the killing of a 27-year-old Flextrafik driver.
According to the judgment, on 27 March 2025 the 42-year-old was traveling with his mother to the Psychiatric Emergency Department in Roskilde in a Flextrafik bus. The man has explained that he suffered from severe delusions, partly as a result of long-term substance abuse. During the journey, he felt threatened and stabbed the driver once in the neck with a scalpel. The 27-year-old driver died three days later from his injuries.
The Danish Medico-Legal Council assessed the case and declared that the man was insane at the time of the offense. Combined with a long-standing pattern of mixed substance abuse, this formed the basis for the prosecution’s request for a psychiatric placement order.
-“This is an unfortunate case in every respect, where a young man who was simply doing his job lost his life because of another person’s delusions, which caused him to perceive a world that did not correspond to reality,” said Special Prosecutor Rune Rydik.
The 42-year-old has also been ordered to pay compensation to the surviving relatives of the 27-year-old. He accepted the verdict on the spot and will remain in pre-trial detention in a psychiatric unit until the placement is carried out.
