Fireworks Not Allowed Before New Year’s Eve Despite Early Sales
Even though fireworks have been on sale since 15 December, private individuals are still not permitted to set them off. The rules are clear: fireworks may only be used from 31 December up to and including 1 January. This means that, as of 28 December, people must still wait a few more days before lighting rockets and batteries.
According to the Danish Safety Authority, the regulations are in place to protect both people and animals, who can be affected by the loud explosions. The authorities therefore urge everyone to respect the time limits and restrict fireworks to the permitted New Year period.
If fireworks have already been purchased, it is recommended that they are stored properly until they may be used. Fireworks should be kept dry and not too warm to ensure they remain safe and functional until New Year’s Eve.
Consumers are also reminded to buy fireworks only from authorised retailers and to check that the products are legal. Legal New Year fireworks must carry a CE marking, include instructions for use in Danish, and display clear warnings and recommended safety distances.
In Denmark, it is legal to sell and buy New Year fireworks from 15 December up to and including 31 December. You must be at least 18 years old to buy standard New Year fireworks, while the minimum age is 15 for small fireworks in category F1, such as bang snaps, sparklers and table fireworks.
