Government Strengthens Cybersecurity with New Situations Center
The government is establishing a new 24/7 staffed situations center and strengthening cyber preparedness through the creation of both a cyber monitoring network and a cyber operations center. The measures are intended to improve Denmark’s operational readiness in light of an increasingly complex threat landscape.
According to the government, Denmark is currently facing its most serious security policy situation since the Second World War. Russia is presently waging a hybrid war against NATO and the West, and the expectation is that the threat – particularly in the cyber domain – will continue to grow in the coming years.
“The hybrid threat will increase in the years ahead. That is why the government will establish a 24/7 situations center to strengthen operational cooperation and the authorities’ cross-cutting capabilities for detection, coordination, and response,” says the Minister for Societal Security and Emergency Management, Torsten Schack Pedersen.
Coordinated Cyber Effort to Protect Critical Infrastructure
In response to the growing cyber threat facing Danish authorities, businesses, and citizens, the government will also consolidate the national effort within a new cyber monitoring network and a cyber operations center. The aim is to centralize monitoring, coordination, and crisis management, thereby strengthening cybersecurity – particularly in relation to critical infrastructure.
“We must bring the monitoring of incidents, coordination, response, and crisis management together in one place. This will strengthen the national defense against cyberattacks and enhance cybersecurity, especially around critical infrastructure,” Torsten Schack Pedersen states.
Long-Term Investment in Societal Security
The overall initiative represents a priority investment of approximately DKK 1 billion over four years. The funding is intended to ensure a more robust emergency preparedness across authorities and sectors and to enhance society’s ability to handle hybrid threats and cyberattacks.
