Socialdemokratiet leads the first election in the new Region Østdanmark

Just over 2.2 million residents in the new Region Østdanmark (Region East Denmark), formed by the merger of Region Hovedstaden and Region Sjælland, were eligible to vote for the new regional council on Tuesday. Around 1.5 million did so, corresponding to a turnout of 67.9%.

Socialdemokratiet (Social Democrats) became the largest party in the regional election with 20.4 percent of the vote. It was followed by Det Konservative Folkeparti (Conservatives), which received 13.5 percent.

SF – Socialistisk Folkeparti (Socialist People’s Party) achieved 11.7 percent, while both Enhedslisten – De Rød-Grønne (Red-Green Alliance) and Venstre – Danmarks Liberale Parti (Liberals) each received 10.3 percent. Dansk Folkeparti (Danish People’s Party) reached 10.8 percent, placing just above Venstre and Enhedslisten.

Radikale Venstre (Social Liberal Party) finished with 9.2 percent, and Liberal Alliance received 5.9 percent. Danmarksdemokraterne – Inger Støjberg (Denmark Democrats) received 2.7 percent, while Moderaterne (The Moderates) achieved 2.2 percent.

Alternativet (The Alternative) stands at 1.7 percent, and a range of smaller lists each received between 0.1 and 0.3 percent: Kristendemokraterne (Christian Democrats), Demokraterne – Hele Danmark skal leve, Bylisten, Nyt Sjælland, DKP – Kommunisterne, Kommunistisk Parti, Sydhavslisten and Alliancen for Børnene, Ungdommen og Fremtiden.
