The Social Democrats, led by former minister Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil as their candidate for Lord Mayor, were surpassed by both the Red-Green Alliance (Enhedslisten) and the Socialist People’s Party (SF-Socialistisk Folkeparti) in Tuesday’s municipal election in Copenhagen.

The Red-Green Alliance became the largest party in the Copenhagen municipal election with 22.1 percent of the vote and will take 13 seats in the new city council. The Socialist People’s Party follows as the second-largest party with 17.9 percent and is allocated 10 seats. The Social Democrats receive 12.7 percent and will take 8 seats.

The Conservative People’s Party wins 11.3 percent of the votes and gets 7 seats, while the Social Liberal Party receives 10.5 percent and gets 6 seats. Venstre gets 6.1 percent and is allocated 3 seats. The Liberal Alliance ends at 5.2 percent and takes 3 seats, while The Alternative receives 5.0 percent and gets 2 seats.

The Danish People’s Party wins 3.8 percent of the vote and gets 2 seats. The Independent Greens receive 2.0 percent and will take 1 seat. Several other parties win between 0.0 and 0.3 percent of the vote but do not gain representation.

A final count will now follow, which may change both the vote totals and the distribution of seats.
