Starting in 2026, the City of Copenhagen will introduce a new digital solution called “Book en plads” (Book a placement), aimed at making it easier for parents to choose childcare placements. The system is designed to provide a clearer overview of available places and allow parents to select a specific spot for their child.

-“It should be easier to be a family with children in Copenhagen, which is why I have long wanted a more transparent system with the parents’ choices in focus. With this new initiative, we give parents the opportunity to choose a childcare placement well in advance and in a simple, manageable way. It brings peace of mind and predictability to families in Copenhagen—and supports our ambition to make the city Denmark’s champion in children’s wellbeing,” says Jakob Næsager (C), Mayor for Children and Youth.

The new system will replace the current guaranteed placement model, where the municipal placement office assigns a spot within two months. In the future, parents will be able to book an available spot themselves if their childcare needs change.

-“This is a major improvement for the city’s families. Now, parents can easily and quickly choose a new place for their child if their needs change,” says Jakob Næsager.

Funding for the implementation of the new system has been allocated in the 2026 budget.
