Two Men Convicted for Large-Scale Cannabis Grow Operation on Lolland – Over 1,200 Plants Seized
On Thursday, the Court in Nykøbing handed down sentences in a case concerning the professional cultivation of cannabis plants. Two men received prison sentences for their roles in establishing a large-scale cannabis grow operation.
A 37-year-old man from Horslunde was sentenced to one year in prison for providing a building extension where the 59-year-old co-defendant from Nakskov set up a cannabis grow house. During a police raid in May, approximately 1,200 cannabis plants were discovered, equivalent to around 34.5 kilograms of marijuana.
Both men were also convicted of stealing electricity for the grow operation, valued at over 73,000 kroner. In addition, the 37-year-old was convicted of multiple offenses, including driving under the influence of drugs, driving while disqualified, violation of the knife law, and possession of illegal drugs for personal use. The court revoked his driving privileges and confiscated both a car and a motorcycle.
The 59-year-old was sentenced to one year and six months in prison for his involvement in the grow operation and the theft of electricity. He remains in custody awaiting the start of his sentence.
Deputy Prosecutor Mads Jantzen expressed satisfaction with the ruling, highlighting that the court found it indisputable that the 37-year-old was fully aware of the professional cannabis production taking place in the building he had provided. According to the prosecution, the verdict sends a clear message that large-scale and organized marijuana production is treated with severity.
