At the Copenhagen City Court (Københavns Byret) this week, a wide range of criminal cases will be heard, spanning violence, robbery and drug trafficking to fraud, smuggling and traffic offences. The week includes cases concerning possession of cannabis and cocaine, violence against public officials and several larger matters involving economic crime.

Monday

The week opens with a full docket across multiple courtrooms. The day features cases on violence, theft and robbery, alongside matters concerning fraud related to money transfers and possession of controlled substances. Among the more serious cases are one about assault with a knife and another involving violence and theft. A series of traffic cases are also on the agenda — including speeding, driving under the influence and possession of a folding knife. The day further includes a case on smuggling of a particularly serious nature and several guilty-plea cases.

Tuesday

Tuesday continues several of Monday’s matters, including the case on fraud involving money transfers and a larger case concerning possession of cannabis and burglary. Additional cases involve handling stolen goods, fraud against public funds and unauthorised hair transplants. The day also brings a case on assault on a police officer, several cases of violence and money laundering, and a number of traffic matters, including drink-driving and speeding. Among the guilty-plea cases is one for grossly reckless driving.

Wednesday

Midweek attention turns to several extensive and serious cases. A jury trial for attempted murder continues, and the court also hears cases concerning violence and threats, stalking, robbery and possession of weapons. Multiple cases relate to possession and supply of cannabis and cocaine, while another concerns fraud involving public funds. The guilty-plea docket includes a case on distribution of child sexual abuse material and one on computer fraud. A series of traffic cases are also heard, including speeding and use of a handheld mobile phone while driving.

Thursday

Thursday continues several major proceedings, including a stalking case, one concerning possession of cannabis and cocaine, and a continuation of the case on burglary and possession of a knife. The day also includes matters involving violence, document forgery, money laundering and controlled substances. In addition, the court deals with several applications to modify previous orders and breaches of conditions. A case concerning seizure as part of a preliminary constitutional proceeding, as well as matters on unauthorised use of a vehicle and knife possession, rounds out the programme.

Friday

The week concludes with a broad mix of cases. The day begins with traffic and fine cases, including driving without a licence, using a handheld mobile phone and speeding. Among the more serious matters are cases on violence, burglary, document forgery and computer fraud. The court also hears cases on possession and supply of cocaine, as well as breaches of the Aliens Act. Friday further features several guilty-plea cases, including possession of narcotics and weapons, and matters concerning the continuation of court-ordered measures.

The week at the Copenhagen City Court once again illustrates the breadth of cases handled daily — from minor traffic offences to the most serious crimes requiring the participation of lay judges or jurors.
