The Danish defense is currently participating in NATO’s annual nuclear flying exercise Steadfast Noon with four F-35 fighter jets along with host nation support.

The exercise gathers aircraft from a number of NATO member countries and constitutes a central part of the alliance’s nuclear deterrence.

The purpose of Steadfast Noon is to maintain NATO’s ability to ensure peace and stability through credible deterrence. The exercise is planned well in advance and is carried out independently of current geopolitical events. During the exercise, aircraft capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear weapons participate, but none of the participating countries bring nuclear weapons into the air.

As part of Denmark’s contribution, the country has provided airspace over the North Sea for exercise flights at NATO’s request. There will also be increased activity in and around Skrydstrup Air Base near Vojens.

The exercise lasts until October 24th.
